G3 Electrical Applications Tapes for High Temperatures

Tapes for High Temperatures

Scotch® 69

A glass cloth tape with silicone adhesive coating, printable. High solvent resistance. Suitable for  permanent operational temperatures up to 190°C. Bonds fast and is applicable for the external outer wrap on coils.

Usage:

  • for insulation and mechanical protection of coils and transformers in Class H
  • for insulation of lead wires (e.g. outlets) in Class H.

Scotch® 27

A printable glass cloth tape with rubber adhesive. With extraordinary stability and high tensile strength. Suitable for Class B (130°C), may be temporarily exposed to even higher temperatures.  The adhesive is thermosetting, i.e., it sets after some time and the tape cannot be removed in the usual way.

Usage:

  • mechanical protection, protection against radiation heat
  • insulation
  • cable protection against flame.

Scotch® 70

A silicone self-fusing tape with a liner, resistant to electric arc, leakage currents, environment, UV light, ozone and the weather. Outstanding self-fusing and self-cleaning features. Does not contain halogens and when burning, it only gives negligible smoke which is not aggressive or poisonous.  Suitable for insulating and sealing of non-flammable cables. It can stand very high temperatures up to 180°C and remains flexible even in extremely low temperatures. Resistant to cable oils, resin and impregnants.  It is applied using a gentle stretch (10 up to 100% elongation).

Usage:

  • the top layer in cable terminations
  • insulation for outdoor distributions
  • for transformers
  • for non-flammable cables
  • as an oil barrier in transition sleeves
  • flexible insulation for high temperatures.

Scotch® 77

A fire retardant tape protecting against flame and electric arc. Made of conformable elastomer without a carrier. Expands in very high temperature (cause by fire and flame) and thus creates a protective layer between a cable and the fire. Resistant to fresh and salt water, acid, waste water and UV exposure. To be applied with gentle tension. The ends are secured with Scotch® 27 against unwrapping. It conducts heat well (until it expands), and therefore does not reduce cable performance markedly. It can even stand the temperature of an electric arc (around 13,000°C) for a limited time and in this way protects the cable. Complies with V-0 UL-94.

Usage:

  • protection of PVC and other power cables, which would otherwise degrade fast in fire
  • protects against fire and electric arc.

Can also be used to protect piping and distribution nets produced from materials non-resistant against fire.
